Discover grant writing tips and tricks that will help make proposals more attractive to funders. This free workshop will highlight community development and environmental grants, as well as upcoming infrastructure grants. However, the information covered will be applicable to many other types of grants from federal government and foundations.

Andy Beshear
63rd Governor of Kentucky
Andy Beshear grew up in Fayette, Franklin, and Clark counties and graduated from Henry Clay High School. He is the son of Steve and Jane Beshear, the 61st Governor and first lady. Along the way, they instilled in Andy the teachings of Andy’s grandfather, a Baptist minister from Dawson Springs, Kentucky, including the values of family, faith, and public service.
The values Andy learned growing up, his experience as a private practice attorney and his commitment to his community led him to run for and become Attorney General in 2016. In his role as Kentucky’s 50th Attorney General, Andy fought tirelessly for our families. He fought against the opioid epidemic, suing opioid manufacturers and distributors that flooded our state with pills; creating the Kentucky Opioid Disposal Program to remove unused opioids from Kentuckians’ medicine cabinets; and investigating and prosecuting rogue doctors and drug traffickers.
Andy Beshear was an independent voice as Attorney General and fought to uphold Kentucky’s constitution and laws. He stood up for higher education and hard-earned pensions. He knows when state government operates in secret, it is not working for the people and that is why Andy is committed to an open, transparent and inclusive administration.
Andy and Britainy have two young children, Will and Lila. The family attends Beargrass Christian Church, where both Andy and Britainy serve as deacons, and they volunteer with several local organizations.
Rebecca Goodman
Secretary Kentucky Energy & Environment Cabinet
Rebecca Goodman was appointed as the state’s top environmental officer in December 2019 by Gov. Andy Beshear. Secretary Goodman has spent more than four decades in service to the Commonwealth. She most recently advocated on behalf of Kentucky utility ratepayers as the executive director of the Office of Rate Intervention within the Office of the Attorney General.
Through her work on both state and federal cases, Secretary Goodman regularly dealt with social and environmental justice issues that frequently involved low income, disadvantaged and residential customer needs. She has served as general counsel for the Kentucky Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, the Kentucky Executive Branch Ethics Commission and the Kentucky Electric Generation and Transmission Siting Board.
Secretary Goodman also has served as the executive director of the Office of Legal Services at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet after beginning her career as a staff attorney for the Kentucky Public Service Commission. Secretary Goodman earned her Juris Doctor from Salmon P. Chase College of Law, and her Bachelor of Science, Business Administration, Magna Cum Laude, from Kentucky State University.
Monique Kuykendoll Quarterman
Deputy Executive Director, KY Innovation
Monique Kuykendoll Quarterman is settling into her new office as the Deputy Executive Director of KY Innovation. Monique expressed her excitement for the future of entrepreneurship in Kentucky and why KY Innovation is better equipped than ever to connect aspiring business owners to the resources they need to get started.
“To be a part of the fantastic engine that’s pushing our state forward is an honor,” Monique said. “I love hearing about the new startups forming statewide or spinning out of the Kentucky colleges and universities. It would amaze you how much value there is in Kentucky’s startup communities! Our team works to amplify that value, and the KY Innovation catalogue of resources does just that.”
A native of Hardin County, KY, Monique has been supporting Kentucky’s founders since 2012 in the Office for Research & Innovation at the University of Louisville. She has been a Business Development Manager at MEMStim, a founder of a Louisville-based innovation consulting practice, and collaborated with the Cabinet for Economic Development and KY Innovation in 2020 as the Executive Director of Kentucky Commercialization Ventures within the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation.
Jason Lindsey (Mr. Science)
Hooked on Science
Jason Lindsey, aka "Mr. Science, with Hooked on Science, is a nationally-recognized STEM educator, science multimedia journalist, digital meteorologist, and author.
He’s appeared on the NBC Today Show, Fox & Friends, RFD-TV, WeatherNation, and television stations, across the United States, getting America “Hooked on Science.”
Jason visits hundreds of schools, each year, inspiring kids to be inquisitive about the world around them and to develop a long-term interest in science and math. His hands-on, kid-friendly, science enrichment classes and camps are offered throughout the year and have hooked thousands of kids on science.
Jason previously worked as a chief meteorologist, multimedia science journalist, and web content manager at television stations across the United States. Jason now produces and hosts a hands- on science syndicated television segment. Jason is a STEM professional and brings real-world science connections to schools. He is an award-winning meteorologist and holds the National Weather Association television broadcast Seal of Approval.
