Sunspot viewing!
Date/Time
5/10/2024 - 5/13/2024
if we see the sun this weekend!
Event Type(s)
Kentucky science event
Event Description
If you still have your eclipse glasses, then take a look at the solar disk for a very large sunspot group. It’s size is comparable to the sunspot group that caused the Carrington Event in 1859.

A Carrington-like event today could produce mass casualties around the globe. It is moving into a position relative to Earth where it would cause the most damage. I will remain visible for the next few days before the Sun’s rotation takes it to the far side.

If you don’t have your glasses anymore, a pinhole projection should work well enough.
