The Kentucky Paleontological Society (KPS) Monthly meeting

 Dr. Gretel Monreal, University of Louisville 
 
Gretel Monreal PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the University of Louisville (UofL) and helps lead UofL’s Advanced Heart Failure Research Program.  She is Director of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Simulation Labs for student and physician education and Co-Directs UofL’s Heartwheels! STEM Mobile Outreach program.  She received her BS (Biology) and MS and PhD (Veterinary Preventive Medicine) from The Ohio State University.  Her research expertise is in the development and testing of mechanical circulatory support devices (ex. total artificial hearts, left ventricular assist devices) for the treatment of heart failure.  In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, exploring new places, playing the piano, and fossil hunting.  She has been a lifelong fossil fan, since hunting ferns in the Llewellyn Formation as a child with her family, and today can be found at outcrops with her friends in the KPS, ESCONI, Dry Dredgers, KYANA, and NCFC.
