Event Description

In a time of growing momentum for science engagement at the state and local level, it is more important than ever for scientists to build trusted, long-term relationships with policymakers. This webinar, hosted by the AAAS Local Science Engagement Network (LSEN), will explore why relationships matter in science policy, what the research tells us about effective engagement, and how scientists can take practical steps to begin and sustain meaningful connections with policymakers at the federal, state, and local levels. We’ll explore data on why relationships matter in policymaking, discuss the unique opportunities of the upcoming August recess, and offer concrete strategies for initiating first contact and keeping the door open. Whether you’re new to policy engagement or looking to deepen your impact, this session will equip you with tools and inspiration to build lasting, productive relationships in your own community.
