Event Name:
Preservation Archaeology Camp

Event Type(s):
Kentucky science event

Description:
Preservation Camp
Grades: 5-9    Cost: $150

Expand your child's education this summer, and send them to Portland Museum's Squire Earick House - the oldest, still standing, timber-framed house in Jefferson County!

For the first few days, your child will learn about Portland's social history and historical architecture. The camp will also go on daily trips to the museum's Squire Earick House where students will work with various public history and archaeology professionals to understand what it means to have a historic house in a museum collection. Plus, we will visit a couple local historic house museums!

Overall, campers will learn to research and evaluate sources pertaining to historical culture and explore the 19th century techniques used to create the Squire Earick House.

* Starting this year, we are offering early drop-off / late pick-up times.
About
From our beginning as an exhibit in an elementary school classroom, Portland Museum is rooted in education. Throughout the year, we offer week-long youth camps and drop-in workshops. With each camp, we strive to broaden children’s perspective on history, art, museums, and the Portland-Louisville area.

For Summer 2019, camp sessions begin as early as Monday June 10th and run through the month of June. For the first time, we are also offering early drop-off and late pick-up times.

Scholarship Information
Scholarships are available for each program listed. There is a limited number of scholarships, so we encourage you to fill out an application as soon as possible!
