Description:
The 18th Annual Kentucky Science and Engineering Fair (KY-SEF) will be held in Richmond, Kentucky, on Saturday, March 28, 2020. Nearly 300 of the finest young scientists from grades 5-12 from across the state will compete for awards and scholarships.  The middle school competition is affiliated with Broadcom MASTERS, and 15 middle school projects will be nominated to compete at the national level.  The high school competition is affiliated with the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), and the best high school projects from the statewide KY-SEF will be entered in the Intel ISEF competition in Anaheim, California in May 2020. Intel International Science and Engineering Fair is a program of Science and the Public, a nonprofit organization dedicated to public engagement in scientific research and education.

Judging – One of the most valuable experiences these student finalists can have is the opportunity to discuss their research with established members of the scientific and engineering communities. This year we need approximately 150 professionals including university faculty, medical researchers, industrial scientists, engineers, and representatives of private and governmental research centers to volunteer their time to interview and determine awards for these deserving young scientists.
To judge at the high school level, judges should have a doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent), M.S. degree, and at least three years of professional experience in the category they wish to judge. High school teachers and graduate students may judge in the middle school competition.

Affiliated science fair directors and fair Board members are not eligible to serve as judges.
Judging activities take place between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2020, at the Alumni Coliseum on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University (2nd round judges will be required until approximately 3 p.m.) Judges are needed in each of 22 scientific categories at the high school and middle school levels.  Continental breakfast and lunch are provided.
